QADR: All Quiet on the Western Front

Here’s my “Quick and Dirty Review” of “All Quiet on the Western Front.”

War is hell, and this excellent film takes us through all of it, from the “rah rah” patriotism to the depths of insanity as far-off generals and “statesmen” hurl the innocent bodies of young soldiers into the grinding gears of the war machine.

Beautiful and haunting, this is one of the best war movies made in years and rivals “Saving Private Ryan” in the way it makes you care about the characters. The heartbreaking waste of human life are portrayed beautifully in this film, based on the 1929 book by Erich Remarque. I think the film would have been more affective if it were 30 minutes shorter, but other than that, I had few complaints. 8 out of 10.
